Julianna M. Malis, LL.M

I am a mom, wife and estate planning attorney. My legal career spans nearly twenty years.  I earned my law degree from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1996 and an advanced law degree (LL.M) in Taxation and Estate Planning in 1999.

While my law firm offers all the services of a traditional estate planning firm, my passion is to solve some of the serious problems our seniors and their families unfortunately face as they age. I assist clients with Long-Term Care Planning, qualifying for Medi-Cal Benefits, avoiding Medi-Cal Recovery, Asset Protection, Veterans Aid & Attendance Benefits, and many other legal issues associated with growing older.

Having recently dealt with my mother’s terminal illness and subsequent incapacitation, I know personally the time, money and emotional toll families have at stake when their loved one becomes ill. The thorough and well-thought out plan my mother put in place prior to her illness was truly a gift to her children which made a difference in caregiving and relief to us in end of life decision-making.  I take great pride in custom planning for my clients taking into account all aspects of their unique lives and serving each with respect, patience, honesty and integrity.

I am an accredited attorney by the Veteran’s Administration to represent Veterans and an active member of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), ElderCounsel, ElderLaw Answers, the Trusts & Estates Section of the California State Bar, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform and Coalition for Compassionate Care.

These organizations provide me with a network of experienced professionals who I collaborate and share ideas and strategies in the very complex and constantly changing and evolving areas of elder law, estate planning, Medi-Cal, Social Security and Veterans benefits.

NYFotography-Malis-Family-116I live in Santa Barbara with my husband Sean. Together we have a blended family of five children and one grand baby on the way.  We also have a labrador named Gus aka Mr. LawDog who you might meet when you come to our office. He will start training soon to become a hospice therapy dog but in the meantime he likes to hang out under my desk. Aside from the practice of law, I enjoy cooking and spending time with my family.  We all enjoy hiking, camping and the outdoors.

I promise you that when your plan is done, you’ll feel at peace and you’ll feel like family.
