Julianna M. Malis, LL.M
I am a mom, a wife and an estate planning attorney. I have been practicing law on the Central Coast for over twenty years, devoted to protecting families and small businesses. Early in my legal career, I founded a two attorney consumer protection firm which specialized in prosecuting claims against shady car dealers, abusive debt collectors and credit reporting agencies before returning my attention to the area of law I enjoy most: estate planning and elder law. While my law firm offers all of the traditional estate and business planning services, my passion is to help seniors and their families manage the financial and emotional challenges that come with growing older. Having recently dealt with my mother’s terminal illness and subsequent incapacity, I understand on a personal level what my clients are going through.
Fortunately, my mother had a well-designed and thorough plan already in place before she became ill. Her plan not only protected her assets, including a lucrative business she had built over 35 years, but also alleviated some of the stress and uncertainty surrounding her care and making end-of-life decisions on her behalf. I strive to provide all of my clients, whether individuals or businesses, with the peace of mind that comes from having a plan in place for whatever the future holds. I take great pride in getting to know my clients well, creating customized plans that address their unique needs and goals, and treating each and every client with respect, patience, honesty and integrity.
I graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a degree in Philosophy in 1993. I earned my law degree from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1996 and an advanced law degree (LL.M) in Taxation and Estate Planning in 1999. I am an accredited attorney by the Veterans Administration to represent Veterans and an active member of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), ElderCounsel, WealthCounsel, the Trusts & Estates Section of the California State Bar, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform and Coalition for Compassionate Care.
These organizations provide me with a network of experienced professionals who I collaborate and share ideas and strategies in the very complex and constantly changing and evolving areas of elder law, estate and business planning, Medi-Cal and Veterans benefits. Whether you are just starting your family, taking your business to the next level, interested in preserving wealth or safeguarding a lasting legacy, I am here to help you.
I live in Santa Barbara with my husband Sean. Together we have a blended family of five children and one grandbaby. We also have a labrador named Gus aka Mr. LawDog who you might meet when you come to our office. He will start training soon to become a hospice therapy dog but in the meantime he likes to hang out under my desk. Aside from the practice of law, I enjoy cooking and spending time with my family. We all enjoy hiking, camping and the outdoors.
I promise you that when your plan is done, you’ll feel at peace and you’ll feel like family.
